The Anti-kidnap Unit of the Federal Capital Police Command recently apprehended three individuals suspected of kidnapping pastors from the ECWA church in Abuja’s Bwari Area Council.
During a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu revealed that the suspects were captured following a police operation in the Kweri forest, an area that connects Kaduna and the FCT.
Disu detailed how the suspects were involved in numerous criminal acts, including robbery and assaults on accommodations belonging to ECWA church pastors in villages like Dnapoyi, Mpape, and Daupe.
The suspects, identified as Hussaini Adamu, Yau Adamu, and Aminu Adamu, were said to be led by their gang leader, Gwan Umar, operating from the Kaduna forest.
In their confession, the suspects admitted to murdering a victim named Comfort Oyanga and kidnapping Felix Sanyo and Julius Oyanga in the Daupe area, for which the families paid a ransom of N80 million.
Additionally, they also admitted to kidnapping Dimas Maisamari in Mpape, among others, who were taken to the forests of Kaduna.
The criminals had reportedly extorted millions in ransom from victims’ families, while police efforts continue to pursue additional suspects on their wanted list.
Commissioner Disu highlighted that authorities seized several items during the operation, including two AK-47 rifles, 85 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, three AK-47 magazines, and one homemade firearm.
