The Borno State Police have successfully arrested six individuals linked to a series of kidnappings and armed robberies, recovering approximately ₦2,637,000 from them, who were suspected of extorting money from locals under the pretense of tax duties.

 

The police in Borno State have detained six individuals recognized for their involvement in kidnappings and armed robberies affecting the Magumeri and Konduga Local Government Areas.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, the suspects were also found to have extorted money from villagers while claiming it was for tax collection.

The report indicated that the suspects admitted to their involvement in the crimes and will face charges in court.

The statement elaborated, “On 25th October 2024, based on reliable intelligence, the Command Crack Squad conducted a secret operation in Chingowa Village, Konduga LGA, resulting in the arrest of the following suspects: Modu Bindimi (26), Koso Modu Gana (24), Kassim Bulama (27), Isah Muhammed (21), Zarami Fantami (22), and Modu Bunu (24). They were seized with a pump-action shotgun, a live cartridge, and ₦2,637,000 in cash.”

“Investigations uncovered that this group is implicated in cases of armed robbery and kidnapping within Magumeri and Konduga LGAs and was also coercing funds from communities under the guise of tax to avoid criminal actions against them.”

“The suspects have confessed, and will be prosecuted after a thorough investigation,” the statement continued.

In addition, Daso emphasized, “The Commissioner of Police, CP ML Yusufu, reiterates the commitment of the Command to ensuring public safety and encourages citizens to report any suspicious actions to the nearest police station or through emergency numbers, including 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.”
