Albinism and Ambition: Twin Sisters from Soc Trang Transform Their Family’s Future

Albino twin sisters in Soc Trang help family improve their lives

Life Journey of a Unique Family

Nguyen Thi Rong, born in 1988, and her husband Dang Van May, who was born in 1989, reside in the Nga Nam district of Soc Trang province. They are the proud parents of three children: one son and twin daughters, all of whom have albinism.

The siblings, particularly the twins Dang Thien Kim and Dang My Kim, who were born in 2019, are known for their charm and intelligence. When the twins turned two, their parents temporarily left their elder son with his grandparents and moved to Binh Duong for factory jobs, bringing the twins along.

In Binh Duong, the twins were enrolled in kindergarten. However, the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic left the family unemployed.

To make ends meet, they relied on food donations from their hometown. With newfound free time, they created a TikTok channel as a source of entertainment. Their videos showcasing their daughters’ joyful moments soon went viral, amassing millions of views and earning the girls the nickname “angel twins.”

“After our TikTok videos gained traction, many content creators visited us for interviews. A well-known YouTuber also came and filmed our story, which further elevated my daughters’ popularity,” Rong shared.

This YouTuber helped the family establish their own YouTube channel, providing the couple with a new avenue for income. Interestingly, the names of Rong and May symbolize different elements: ‘Rong’ means Dragon, while ‘May’ translates to Cloud.

Despite their rise in fame, the couple refuted claims of substantial wealth stemming from their daughters’ popularity. Rong mentioned that they are simply rural individuals with limited skills in communication and content creation. Initially, they attracted viewers out of curiosity, but interest eventually waned.

Currently, their videos attract only about 11,000 to 30,000 views each, leading to a modest monthly income of roughly 10 to 12 million VND, contrary to claims of earning billions.

Two years ago, they made the decision to return to their hometown due to the deteriorating health of May’s mother, who needed assistance in caring for their eldest son.
