Kano State’s 2025 Budget Proposal Unveiled
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has introduced a proposed budget for 2025 amounting to N549.16 billion, while noting that the performance for the 2024 budget was recorded at 77%.
During the presentation in the State Assembly, he detailed that the budget allocates approximately N312.63 billion for capital projects and N236.53 billion for recurrent expenses.
If passed, the budget will reflect a capital-to-recurrent spending ratio of 57% to 43% respectively.
Governor Yusuf indicated that the majority of capital investments will enhance social and economic sectors, totaling around N461.45 billion.
The education sector is set to receive N168.35 billion (31%), while health will get N90.60 billion (16.5%). Additionally, agriculture is allocated N21.04 billion (3.83%), and infrastructure development is earmarked N70.68 billion (12.87%).
Moreover, sectors such as Manufacturing, Commerce, Industry, and Tourism will receive N3.89 billion (1.22%), Environment and Sanitation N15.52 billion (2.83%), and governance institutions will get N98.24 billion (17.57%).
The governor also reviewed the previous year’s budget of N437.3 billion, which achieved a 77% performance, with a recurrent revenue and expenditure rate of 65%. He attributed some achievements to eliminating financial leakages.
Reflecting on the challenges faced by citizens in 2024, Governor Yusuf acknowledged the protests triggered by the Federal Government’s economic measures, rising costs, and exchange rate issues.
He expressed hope that the protests of August would not be repeated but emphasized the need for continued support for the youth in the state.
The governor underlined the potential consequences of youth discontent and the government’s commitment to launching various programs aimed at their development.
