Making his first appearance in the role 32 years ago, Todd received significant acclaim, resulting in a 79% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. He later reprised his role for a 2021 sequel, alongside other entries in 1995 and 1999.

“It is with deep sadness that I confirm the passing of my dear friend and client of over 30 years, Tony Todd,” stated Jeffrey Goldberg to The Post. “He was an extraordinary individual, and I will deeply miss him every day.”

What happened to Tony Todd?

Born in 1954 in Washington, D.C., the actor died peacefully at his residence in Marina del Rey, California, due to natural causes according to TMZ. He leaves behind two children.

Beyond the Candyman role, Todd had a prolific career, participating in over 240 films and television series, with his most recent role being Future Mr. Lockwood in the upcoming 2024 movie, Steam, and voicing Venom in the Spider-Man 2 video game.

In television, Todd featured in acclaimed shows such as Law & Order, Smallville, Charmed, 21 Jump Street, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, showcasing his impressive versatility.

His Candyman co-star, Virginia Madsen, expressed her heartfelt tributes on social media following his death.

“My beloved. May you rest in power sweet to the sweet in heaven,” Madsen shared on Instagram. “The amazing actor Tony Todd has departed us and is now among the angels, as he was in life. More to come later, but I can’t right now. I love you.”
