Eder Militao’s ACL Tear: A Setback for Real Madrid’s Defense

Eder Militao injury update: Real Madrid defender tears ACL in right knee a year after tearing left ligament image

Eder Militao, a defender for Real Madrid, has suffered a significant knee injury during a commanding 4-0 victory over Osasuna on November 9.

The win was a much-needed morale booster for Los Blancos, especially as Vinicius Junior scored an impressive hat-trick at Santiago Bernabeu. However, the game was marred by injuries, with Militao, Lucas Vazquez, and Rodrygo all leaving the field early. Militao appeared particularly troubled, needing to be carried off on a stretcher.

Following the match, the club provided an update regarding Militao’s condition.

Update on Eder Militao’s Injury

Militao was taken off in the 30th minute and was noticeably upset as he was stretchered away. Subsequent medical evaluations revealed that he had completely torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and also suffered damage to the meniscus.

The club confirmed that he will require surgery soon.

Is This His Previous Injury Knee?

This is not Militao’s first knee injury; he had only returned in March 2024 after previously tearing the ACL in his left knee back in August 2023.

He underwent surgery after that initial injury, which he sustained in the opening league match against Athletic Bilbao and made his return on March 31 against the same team.

Possible Return Date for Eder Militao

Given the seriousness of his current injury, it is highly unlikely that Militao will be able to return before the end of the 2024/25 season.

Instead, the 26-year-old may set his sights on making a comeback during the new FIFA Club World Cup, starting in mid-June, depending on his recovery process.
