Thirteen students from the Federal Unity College (FUC) in Enugu State have been suspended for six weeks for their involvement in bullying activities.
This decision was announced by Folashade Boriowo, the Director of Press and Public Relations, through a statement released in Abuja.
The suspension was ordered by Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa following the circulation of a video that depicted bullying by students from the institution.
Dr. Alausa emphasized the Ministry’s strong dedication to ensuring a safe learning environment in all federal schools across the nation.
He pointed out that the Ministry had received alarming reports concerning the bullying incident at FUC, Enugu, which raised serious safety and disciplinary concerns.
“The investigation revealed that the incident involved the gang attack on a day student in SS1 on November 7,” he stated.
“The situation gained attention on social media, displaying a distressing video of the event.”
“In response, the Federal Ministry of Education has formed a disciplinary committee to delve into the matter.”
“Following the investigation, a six-week suspension has been placed on all 13 involved students, pending further findings from the committee,” he added.
The minister also instructed the School Based Management Committee (SBMC) to work with law enforcement to conduct a comprehensive investigation, including examining any ties to outside groups.
Additionally, he mentioned that security measures at the college have been strengthened, involving cooperation with law enforcement agencies and a review of current safety protocols.
