A New Face at the Oscars: Who’s Set to Steer Hollywood’s Biggest Night?

The Oscars have a new host: Which TV legend will present the awards for the best of Hollywood cinema?

On March 2, Conan O’Brien will take the stage as the host of the 97th Academy Awards, joining the ranks of Hollywood greats such as Douglas Fairbanks, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Carson, and Whoopi Goldberg.

O’Brien’s impressive career spans many years. Starting as a writer for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons, he later transitioned into a beloved late-night talk show host. Hailing from Brookline, Massachusetts, he has secured his place as one of television’s most recognized personalities.

With a total of 31 Emmy nominations and 5 wins, O’Brien is well-regarded for his sharp humor. Now, he’s set to showcase his comedic skills on one of the biggest stages in entertainment.

“America wanted this”

On Friday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) officially announced that O’Brien will be hosting the 2025 Oscars. In his typical humorous fashion, he shared this news on social media, jokingly stating: “America demanded it, and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.”

Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy, along with president Janet Yang, shared their enthusiasm: “We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host the Oscars this year. His brilliant humor, love for movies, and live TV prowess make him the ideal choice for this celebration.”

They continued, “His incredible talent to engage with audiences will unite viewers to celebrate what the Oscars do best – honoring the outstanding films and filmmakers of this year.”

A veteran host

O’Brien has a wealth of experience in hosting significant events. He previously took the reins for the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2002 and 2006, the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, and TNT’s Christmas in Washington specials in both 2011 and 2012.

His experience, charisma, and humor suggest he will deliver a memorable performance at this year’s Oscars, following in the footsteps of famous hosts like Jimmy Kimmel.
