The Evolving Dynamic Between Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump

Megyn Kelly's Relationship With Trump Just Keeps Getting Weirder

Many were taken aback by Megyn Kelly’s backing for Donald Trump during the 2024 election, given their tense history. Trump has openly disdained her in the past, and Kelly cited this criticism as a significant reason for her departure from Fox News.

The conflict between them started in 2015 at the first Republican debate when Kelly challenged Trump’s derogatory language towards women. His anger led him to attack her publicly. He notably questioned Kelly’s intelligence and infamously made a crude remark about her. Even Roger Ailes urged him to apologize for those comments.

Eventually, they seemed to mend fences in an interview where he apologized for previously calling her a derogatory term. However, Kelly later expressed her reluctance to return to that tumultuous dynamic, which influenced her choice to leave Fox. Fast forward to 2024, and she surprised many by praising Trump again.

Megyn Kelly has warmed to Trump, but she’s not a pushover

Throughout the 2024 election season, Megyn Kelly appeared to be solidly in Donald Trump’s camp. She even delivered a heartfelt speech at his final Pennsylvania rally, complete with hugs before and after her address—a stark contrast to their former enmity.

Nevertheless, Kelly’s sentiments towards Trump are nuanced. After interviewing him on her podcast about his legal issues, she noted his annoyance and mentioned that he returned to making public jabs at her. However, she insisted that their renewed camaraderie must incorporate honest discussions, despite the discomfort it may cause. Kelly criticized some aspects of a controversial rally he held, suggesting that Trump should tone down certain rhetoric to reach undecided voters.

Ultimately, Trump won the election, which Kelly expressed joy over, noting a brighter outlook. Yet, she will likely remain candid with him when it counts, reflecting a more balanced viewpoint rather than deceptive motives. How Trump will handle such critiques remains to be seen.
