Arthurus, a content creator from Lithuania, has made HCM City his home for the past five years. He is well-known for his tourism videos and has garnered 11,000 subscribers on YouTube.
This year, he shared a video detailing his return to Vietnam after visiting relatives in Northern Europe, primarily to savor the local cuisine, particularly the traditional banh chung (square glutinous rice cake).
Upon his arrival in HCM City, Arthurus wasted no time and headed straight to Nguyen Thuong Hien street to indulge in street food.
“I am eager to sample the traditional banh chung wrapped in banana leaves and enjoy some coffee alongside various street foods,” he expressed.
He picked Nguyen Thuong Hien street due to its reputation as a food haven for young people in the city.
Despite visiting during the off-peak noon hours, he was welcomed by a lively atmosphere filled with numerous eateries offering a wide array of dishes.
As he explored the area looking for lunch, Arthurus stumbled upon a vendor selling delicious-scented roasted meat skewers.
After inquiring about the price, he opted for a skewer, which he found delightful and praised enthusiastically.
“Even though I’ve been in Vietnam for quite some time, I had never experienced this dish before. It’s truly fantastic,” Arthurus told the shopkeeper.
The European visitor noted that the meat was “wonderfully cooked, visually appealing, slightly sweet, and complemented by fresh herbs and a tasty dipping sauce.”
He also commended the attentive service from the restaurant staff, who, despite him ordering just one skewer, continued to check if he was satisfied with his meal.
As he continued his food adventure along the street, he discovered a shop offering pork pies and sausages. Although he was initially looking for banh chung, he decided to try some ‘cha bo’ (Vietnamese beef bologna), nem chua (sour meat pie), and cha gio (spring rolls), all of which left a positive impression on him.
He also sampled banh bao chien (fried dumpling) and banh quai vac (Vietnamese Crispy Dumplings), both of which he found equally delightful.
