Ruben Amorim is set to receive funding for player acquisitions during the January transfer window, which is part of the effort to reshape the Manchester United squad.

At 39, Amorim has stated he will not target any players from his previous club Sporting CP early in 2025 but has left open the possibility of transfers come summer.

While he may not implement sweeping changes during this window, there is increasing concern about how some current United players adapt to his coaching style.

Amorim is expected to gradually introduce his favored 3-4-3 formation, successfully utilized during his time in Lisbon.

This approach relies heavily on wing-backs, who must exhibit both the endurance and tactical understanding to excel in offensive and defensive roles.

Injuries have affected United’s options in full-back positions since the season began, with first-choice left-back Luke Shaw potentially facing challenges under Amorim’s management.

Newly signed Noussair Mazraoui is expected to have an opportunity to showcase his abilities, and he may compete for a starting spot with the adaptable Diogo Dalor. However, Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s positions could be at risk.

According to the Daily Mirror, one potential target that fits Amorim’s vision for a dynamic left-back/wing-back is Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

The Hungarian international is also on Liverpool’s radar as they consider options for the future without Andy Robertson. Having made a significant impact throughout his first year in the Premier League, Kerkez has emerged as a vital player for the Cherries.

With a contract that runs until 2029 at the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth has no urgency to sell, meaning United might be looking at a price around £30m ($38m) for a player who could play a crucial role in Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford.
