A fire outbreak at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital located in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has resulted in severe damage estimated in millions of naira.
According to reports from Daily Post, the fire occurred during the early morning hours on Saturday.
Insiders revealed that the blaze primarily affected the Emergency and Accident Unit.
Various items, including office equipment, books, engines, electronic devices, as well as parts of the roof and ceiling, were lost to the flames.
The fire reportedly ignited around 5 AM in the office of a pediatric consultant.
A staff member indicated that the fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical spark.
Approximately 16 patients were urgently evacuated from the affected area.
Omotayo Ogunleye, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, verified the incident to DAILY POST on Saturday.
In a phone conversation, Ogunleye stated that normal hospital operations have since resumed, adding, “Yes, it is true. It is a minor incident. But, normal activities have resumed in the hospital.”
