Davido, a well-known Nigerian musician, has addressed the criticism he faced following a recent interview.
During his conversation with a U.S. radio station, he advised Africans abroad not to return home, highlighting the challenging conditions in Nigeria.
He emphasized the struggles of the Nigerian economy.
”Leave America and go where? Go back where? It’s not cool back home. My country now, the economy is in shambles. The exchange rate is messed up. A lot of stuff is not going well. The economy is not just good anymore. The fuel prices are too high. Imagine a country that produces oil. We produce the oil and are paying more money for it than a country that imports it,” he stated in the interview.
Following the broadcast, many Nigerians expressed their concern, claiming he portrayed the country in a negative light.
He encountered significant backlash as critics accused him of damaging Nigeria’s reputation.
In response on his X account, Davido suggested that the anger directed at him stemmed from the fact that he is truly representing the country positively.
He also criticized TVC, while proudly mentioning his accent during the interview.
