Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj Embrace African Culture, Says Davido
Nigerian artist Davido has shared that both Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj are enthusiastic supporters of African culture.
In a recent discussion with Hot 107.9 FM in Atlanta, Davido highlighted the duo’s strong admiration for the continent’s music and traditions.
He mentioned that both artists enjoy infusing Afrobeats into their music rather than relying solely on traditional Western sounds. For instance, in their latest song together, “If It’s Okay,” Nicki Minaj specifically wanted to incorporate authentic African elements.
“These days, foreign artists are eager to explore our musical styles, which makes collaboration easier,” he noted, referring to his work with Nicki Minaj.
“During the recording of ‘Sensational’ with Chris Brown, I aimed for an American vibe, but he pushed for Afrobeats. He even encouraged me to sing in Pidgin. My dancers featured prominently in the ‘Sensational’ music video and toured with Chris as well. Chris Brown has a great appreciation for African culture, and so does Nicki,” he added.
Chris Brown has teamed up with several African musicians, including Davido, Wizkid, Rema, Fireboy, and Lojay, and has toured with artists like Ayra Starr and Tyla from South Africa.
Nicki Minaj has also collaborated with African talents such as Mr. Eazi, Davido, and Skales.
