Jonathan Encourages Rivers State Governor Amidst Challenges
Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has reached out with words of encouragement for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging him to stay resilient during the current political turmoil.
Jonathan emphasized that the hurdles Fubara is encountering will ultimately contribute to his growth and strength in the political arena, dubbing them as essential experiences that may shape him into a “General” in politics.
This support comes in light of the ongoing political tension between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking at a chieftaincy installation ceremony in the Etche Local Government Area, Jonathan encouraged Fubara to remain dedicated to the residents of Rivers State and prepare for potentially greater challenges ahead, noting that such struggles are commonplace in politics.
“I understand you are facing difficulties, and often I prefer to remain silent during these times. This is your first major political role, and you will encounter various challenges. Bear in mind that no one earns the title of ‘General’ without confronting adversities. The obstacles you are facing now are molding you for a significant role in politics. With dedication and community support, you will persevere,” Jonathan remarked.
He also called upon the community and stakeholders to prioritize peace in Rivers, considering its strategic importance to the Niger Delta and the country.
“A harmonious Rivers State is vital as it is the heart of the Niger Delta. Discontent in Rivers will lead to broader crises in the region that could harm our economy. We need tranquility, and I encourage the Governor to remain focused and calm in his duties,” Jonathan added.
In his reaction, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude towards Jonathan for his supportive presence and reiterated his commitment to advancing the state’s development.
“We will stay the course and strive towards our promised future. Thank you for your continued support,” he stated.
Governor Fubara recognized former President Jonathan’s steadfast backing during tough times, saying, “He has been a pillar of support throughout this challenging phase of our administration.”
