Authorities from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command conducted a raid on a gun manufacturing site operated by a family, producing firearms intended for illegal sale. This operation’s target manufactured and distributed weapons to criminal groups inside and outside the region.
CP Joseph O. Eribo shared details of the operation during a news conference at the Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, on Monday.
The factory’s discovery was made possible by reliable intelligence brought to the police’s attention.
Following the receipt of this information, law enforcement swiftly intervened, resulting in the arrest of one individual, while the others evaded capture.
CP Eribo confirmed the apprehension of David Nse Emmanuel, but noted that his father, Akpan Nse Emmanuel, along with his brothers, escaped the scene.
During the operation, law enforcement seized a variety of weapons, including seven newly manufactured single-barrel guns, five double-barrel guns, a specialized steel double-trigger pistol, a damaged single-barrel gun, a knife disguised as a walking stick, and several iron pipes used in gun crafting.
Eribo reassured the community that there are ongoing efforts to locate the suspects who fled and to trace any individuals who may have acquired firearms from this establishment.
