Mariah Carey is widely recognized as one of the greatest female vocalists in music history, and her legendary performances are particularly beloved during the holiday season.
The release of her hit song “All I Want for Christmas Is You” on October 29, 1994, marked the beginning of her rise to become the undisputed Queen of Christmas. Now, at 55 years old, she is celebrated as a premier holiday artist.
This classic tune holds the top spot on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Holiday Songs list, and thanks to it, Carey became the first artist to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart across four decades: the ’90s, ’00s, ’10s, and ’20s. Clearly, Christmas and Mariah Carey have a special connection.
Currently, she is on tour in the United States, captivating fans with her spectacular live shows. However, like any artist, she can have off nights. During a recent performance at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., Carey had difficulty nailing a high note in her song, leading up to “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
While some audience members found humor in the moment, Carey quickly recovered and delivered a fantastic concert featuring her hits like “Always Be My Baby,” “Honey,” “Fantasy,” and “We Belong Together.”
Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” continues to dominate the Holiday 100 chart, which tracks the most popular seasonal songs using the same methodology as the Billboard Hot 100.
The song has recently climbed six positions to No. 10 on the Hot 100 and has maintained the top spot on the Holiday 100 for a total of 61 weeks out of the 69 weeks since the chart’s inception in 2011, as reported by Billboard.com.
Other songs that have reached No. 1 on the Holiday 100 include Justin Bieber’s “Mistletoe,” Pentatonix’s “Little Drummer Boy,” and Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me,” among others.
During the week of November 22-28, the holiday classic attracted 26.8 million streams (a 52% increase), 15.7 million airplay impressions (up 68%), and 2,000 copies sold (up 25%) in the United States, according to Luminate.
The track also holds notable recognition on Billboard’s Greatest of All Time Holiday 100 Songs chart.
