Asue Ighodalo Demands Apology from Jarrett Tenebe
The candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State for the upcoming governorship elections, Asue Ighodalo, has given a 7-day deadline for the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo, Jarrett Tenebe, to apologize for remarks he considers defamatory.
Tenebe had previously criticized those mocking Governor Monday Okpebholo over his difficulty in announcing the ₦605 Billion Budget. The governor introduced this budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year to the Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
During his budget presentation, Governor Okpebholo mistakenly mispronounced the ₦605 billion amount but proceeded without major disruption to discuss important aspects of the budget.
This incident went viral online and prompted ridicule from various individuals in Nigeria.
In an online statement, Tenebe asserted that the governor’s blunders stemmed from his innocence, contrasting him with former Governor Godwin Obaseki, claiming that neither Obaseki nor Ighodalo would have made such errors due to their alleged corrupt practices.
In reaction, Ighodalo, via his legal representatives, is demanding an apology and retraction regarding accusations of illicitly acquiring public funds in billions.
The PDP gubernatorial candidate noted that if Tenebe does not comply with this request within the specified timeframe, he will pursue legal action.
