Joe Igbokwe
Joe Igbokwe, a notable member of the APC in Lagos, has raised an alarm regarding the ongoing disrespect of the Naira in Nigeria.
In his Facebook statement, he noted that people continue to throw naira notes on the floor and walk on them during parties, funerals, and naming ceremonies.
Igbokwe questioned if there has been a repeal of the ban on such abusive behavior, stating: “Let me remind the Authorities concerned that Nigerians are still throwing Naira notes on ground and still walking on it at parties, burial, naming ceremonies etc. Have we lifted the ban? So that you know.”
To combat the issue of naira mutilation, Nigerian authorities previously took actions against several celebrities who engaged in this behavior.
Notably, popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, received a six-month prison sentence, while socialite Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, was charged with naira abuse but pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.
