A man named Muktar Rabiu sustained serious burns while attempting to steal electrical cables, just weeks after being caught for a similar crime.
According to the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, Muktar was arrested on November 21 on Christ the King Road in Gwagwalada with high-voltage cables believed to have been taken from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
After his arrest, he faced legal action and was sentenced to community service, which included receiving 42 lashes.
‘’Despite this seemingly mild punishment, Muktar reverted to his criminal behavior. In a concerning development, he targeted a transformer for vandalism.
However, on November 28, during this attempt, he encountered a serious incident. Muktar was severely electrocuted while trying to dismantle the equipment, resulting in critical injuries. He is currently hospitalized and, once he recovers, he will be charged again for his offenses.
