Two Arrested for Using Counterfeit Currency in Gombe State
Two individuals have been detained by the Gombe State Police for allegedly using fake money to buy two bags of beans.
The suspects, identified as Garba Audu, known as the “Youth Leader of APC,” and Kabiru Abubakar, both from Layin Arfa, were publicly displayed after their arrest on Tuesday by the Nigeria Police Force.
The victim, Idris Usman, reported that the suspects approached him while he was riding his Bajaj motorcycle to Lariski Market, carrying the beans.
After negotiating a price of ₦210,000, he later discovered that the money he received was counterfeit, leading him to alert the authorities, which resulted in the suspects being caught.
During a press conference, the Police Public Relations Officer for Gombe State, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed that, “The suspects admitted to the crime during questioning and revealed that the fake money came from an associate named Abdullahi, alias ‘Manci,’ from Potiskum Local Government Area, Yobe State, who is still at large.”
Abdullahi also described the evidence gathered during the case.
“The suspects were taken into custody, and a search of their vehicle revealed two bags of beans and counterfeit notes totaling ₦39,000.”
The police official emphasized that the suspects would face court proceedings once the investigation is finalized.
He praised the community for their alertness and cooperation, which proved crucial in the arrests.
The police reiterated their dedication to tackling such offenses and encouraged anyone with additional information regarding the fugitive, Abdullahi, to report it.
