Tragic Incident During Food Distribution at Holy Trinity Catholic Church
Several individuals have tragically lost their lives in a stampede that took place at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in the Maitama district of Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The incident occurred on Saturday morning as the church was providing food assistance to those in need, as reported by Daily Post.
At this time, numerous people have been taken to the hospital due to the injuries sustained.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, has acknowledged the situation and expressed condolences to the families affected while wishing a quick recovery to the injured.
Adeh urged that to avert similar incidents in the future, all organizations, religious groups, or individuals intending to host public events or charitable activities in the FCT must inform the Police in advance.
“This notice will enable the establishment of proper security measures to foster public safety and avert preventable tragedies. Organizers who fail to comply will bear responsibility for any incidents or casualties linked to their negligence,” she stated.
“The FCT Police Command is dedicated to protecting lives and property within the Territory. We encourage community cooperation with the Police by following these recommendations and reporting emergencies to the FCT Control Room at 0803 200 3913 or 0806 032 1234.” she added.
