An 18-year-old suspect named Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, accused of the murder of retired Permanent Secretary Adamu Jagaba in Niger State, has died while in police custody.
According to sources from the police, Abdulhakeem passed away on Thursday, but the cause of death remains unknown.
He was recently identified by the Niger State Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmama, as the main suspect in the stabbing death of Jagaba, who was attacked at his block industry near the PDP Secretariat in Minna.
During a police presentation, Abdulhakeem disclosed that he was hired by employees of the victim to carry out the murder.
The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the suspect’s death in a statement.
“On December 19, 2024, at approximately 5 PM, Fatiyah Abdulhakeem reported experiencing intense abdominal pain and coughing. He was transported to Minna General Hospital for treatment but sadly died while receiving care,” stated the police public relations officer.
“The body has been taken to the hospital morgue, and a postmortem examination is pending for further investigation.”
