A Ghanaian man named Alhaji Ali Kamal, who has two wives, believes that a man’s choice to marry a second wife isn’t indicative of any shortcomings in his first wife. Instead, he argues that it signifies the appreciation a man has learned from his initial marriage regarding the significance of women in his life.
In a recent Facebook update, Ali expressed that intelligent women should support men who engage in polygamy. He mentioned, “For married women, when your husband wishes to take a second wife, it’s because you have shown him the true worth of a woman in his life, prompting his desire for more.”
He further implied that women should not view this situation as a personal failure, stating, “Why not see it like this? Rather than thinking you are lacking something and that he is punishing you… You desire more because you recognize the importance of financial stability in life. If my first marriage had been unsatisfactory, I would not consider adding another wife; instead, I might have explored multiple relationships without the commitment of marriage. Polygamy comes with various challenges and significant responsibilities.”
He concluded by suggesting that wise women should commend polygamous men, claiming there are younger women, around 17 or 19 years old, who are interested in such men. He expressed amusement at older women who criticize this lifestyle, saying, “If you are 30 and making negative remarks, we find it funny.”
