Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his proposed tax reform bills.

He expressed that these bills are detrimental to the interests of northern Nigeria.

This statement was made during a visit from the Christian community in Bauchi at the Government House.

As the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Mohammed claimed that the proposed tax reforms are designed to favor only a particular region of the country.

He urged the President to withdraw the proposed bills.

Mohammed stated that the bills would not provide necessary funds for salary payments or infrastructure development in Northern Nigeria.

“Therefore, the presidency needs to heed the concerns regarding tax reform.

“These bills are not beneficial for Northern Nigeria as they will hinder our ability to fund salaries and construct roads.

“It is crucial for them to listen; ignoring these issues could lead to chaos, which would be harmful.

“We supported the presidency in this state and elsewhere; they should listen to our voices. Policies should not only benefit specific regions or states.

“This is beyond religion or ethnicity; it is about unity and effective leadership at the national level,” he stated.

It is worth noting that President Tinubu, during his initial media interaction, reaffirmed that the tax reform bills are essential for revamping the nation’s economy.

Previously, these bills faced opposition from Northern governors and the National Economic Council.

Ever since being presented to the National Assembly, the tax reform bills have stirred a variety of responses.
