Motorcycle Production Growth in Vietnam
Recent data from the General Statistics Office reveals that Vietnamese manufacturers produced approximately 312,300 motorcycles last month, marking an 11.7% increase over November’s output of 279,500 units and a notable 28.6% rise compared to December 2023.
Throughout 2024, the total motorcycle production in Vietnam reached 3,113,700 units, which is a 7.1% increase from the previous year. This figure surpasses the annual target of 3 million units by around 4%.
The increase in production during December can be attributed to high domestic demand as consumers prepare for the Lunar New Year (Tet) shopping frenzy.
This ample supply is anticipated to maintain stable motorcycle prices during and after the holiday season. Many dealerships are also expected to offer year-end discounts to boost sales further.
The Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), which encompasses key brands such as Honda, Yamaha, SYM, Suzuki, and Piaggio, is responsible for the majority of this output. Honda dominates the market, holding about 80% of VAMM’s share.
In addition to meeting local needs, these manufacturers also export fully assembled motorcycles to a range of international markets.
Aside from VAMM members, various local and foreign direct investment companies like VinFast, DatBike, Pega, Yadea, and Detech are progressively shifting their attention toward the production of electric motorcycles. Although their production remains significant, specific sales figures are not publicly available.
