Royal Family Hints at Distance as Meghan Markle Prepares for Netflix Debut

With the launch of her upcoming lifestyle show, ‘With Love, Meghan’, on Netflix, Meghan Markle seems to be facing continued detachment from the royal family.

A trailer for the program was released last week, featuring Markle engaging in cooking and gardening alongside celebrity friends.

While the trailer has generated interest for the series scheduled to premiere on January 15, the royal family appears indifferent to it.

According to royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, “The Prince and Princess of Wales have no interest in Meghan’s upcoming projects.” She cited a palace source who remarked that “Meghan was a background character in a chapter that’s already closed,” indicating that courtiers feel she no longer warrants attention.

The palace intends to have someone of lower rank watch the show to prepare the communications office for potential responses, as Netflix will not provide advance screenings. This means the royals will view it along with the public. Given the show’s celebrity-focused nature, courtiers are relieved that Meghan has paused her criticisms of the institution.

Royals uninterested in Markle’s ventures

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams echoed this sentiment, asserting that the royal family lost interest in Markle and Prince Harry after their exit from royal duties in 2020.

He stated, “Meghan still captures headlines, and the Sussex brand remains intriguing.” However, he found the series “pretty superficial,” questioning if it featured the Kardashians, and emphasized that the royal family is largely uninterested.

The trailer was shared by Markle on Instagram, marking her return to the platform, yet none of the royal family has followed her new account.

She expressed her excitement about the show, stating, “I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it. Wishing you all a fantastic new year! Thanks to our amazing crew and the team @netflix. Beyond grateful for the support – and fun!”

Harry and Meghan entered into a $100 million partnership with Netflix in 2020, though the status of this deal’s renewal after summer remains uncertain.
