The situation in California has turned dire as severe wildfires in parts of Los Angeles have led to the evacuation of approximately 180,000 residents. Given the potential danger to urban regions, various safety measures have been implemented, resulting in postponed sporting events and canceled movie premieres.
Numerous film studios have decided to cancel premieres scheduled for this week, including Amazon MGM’s ‘Unstoppable’ featuring Jennifer Lopez, Paramount Pictures’ biopic about British singer Robbie Williams, ‘Better Man’, and Universal Studios’ ‘Wolfman’.
The cancellation of ‘Unstoppable’ was announced Tuesday, coinciding with the wildfires impacting the upscale Pacific Palisades area, prompting evacuations and a state of emergency declared by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Amazon MGM Studios released a statement explaining the cancellation of the film’s premiere that was set to take place at the DGA Theater.
“Although we were eagerly anticipating celebrating this incredible film with you, safety is our utmost concern. We encourage you to stream ‘Unstoppable’ on Prime Video, which will be available globally on January 16. Thank you for your understanding, and stay safe,” the studio conveyed in their announcement.
Which celebrities have been impacted by the wildfires in California?
The entertainment industry has faced significant losses, with many well-known figures having their properties damaged, including Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, along with actors Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore, and James Woods.
Actor Mark Hamill shared on Instagram about being evacuated from Malibu, noting, “Small fires on either side of the road as we approached (Pacific Coast Highway).”
The fires have primarily affected the residential zone of Pacific Palisades in the Santa Monica mountains. The typical Santa Ana winds have contributed to the spread towards the famous beach of Malibu.
This region is popular among celebrities, many of whom have vacation homes or main residences there, drawn by its scenic beauty and exclusivity.
