Pop star Britney Spears stirred up quite a buzz online by making a stunning announcement: she claimed to have surpassed Usain Bolt’s iconic 100-meter sprint record.
In a now-famous Instagram update, she stated that she finished the race in an impressive 5.97 seconds, nearly four seconds quicker than Bolt’s record of 9.58 seconds, set during the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.
Her post included a caption stating: “Ran my first 5!!!! Getting over your fear of pushing it in the beginning is key… Once I did that, I hit 5!!!!! Usually, I run 6 or 7… My first try was 9… and now I did it whoop!!!!! 100-meter dash.”
Viewers responded with a mix of amusement and skepticism, taking to social media to highlight the improbability of Spears’ claiming such a swift time.
Bolt’s records are nearly impossible to beat
The ridiculousness of the situation led many to wonder if Bolt, a nine-time Olympic champion and track legend, would respond to the pop sensation’s declaration.
For reference, Bolt’s records are considered unbeatable, encompassing world titles in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay, dominating the sport for over ten years.
Even though a relay gold medal was stripped from him in 2017 due to a teammate’s doping case, his individual records remain unmatched by any athlete, much less a pop icon. Amid the growing uproar, Spears took to her social media again to clarify her words, explaining that her earlier statement was made in jest.
Was it a playful joke or something more?
“PS … obviously I was joking about running the 100-meter dash in 5.97 seconds … the world record is held by Usain Bolt at 9.58 seconds,” she acknowledged, adding with a wink, “But you better believe I’m coming for the world record.”
Though her sprint achievement may have been a fabrication, Spears continues to show her knack for generating discussion, whether through her music or a playful social media exchange. Meanwhile, Bolt effortlessly remains the reigning fastest man in the world, unfazed by the light-hearted stir.
