As of midnight January 15, Digital Television VTC and VOVTV have officially ceased all broadcasts, impacting their programming across various platforms, including FPT Play.
The cessation includes thirteen VTC channels, such as VTC1 HD, VTC2, VTC3 HD, and others, which are no longer airing content. Responsibilities previously held by VTC have now been transferred to Vietnam Television (VTV).
Nhan Dan Television also concluded its operations on the same date, following the earlier shutdowns of National Assembly TV and News Agency TV earlier in January 2025.
Digital Television VTC was established on August 19, 2004, to develop digital broadcasting technologies. By 2015, it came under the management of the Voice of Vietnam (VOV). VOVTV, launched in 2008, was significant for sharing news and cultural insights.
Nhan Dan Television, which started in 2015, focused on broadcasting news and viewpoints that align with the Communist Party of Vietnam’s ideology.
National Assembly TV began its test broadcasts in October 2014 and officially launched in January 2015, focusing on information related to the National Assembly and the Party and State’s activities across the country.
The shutdown of these channels signifies a major shift in Vietnam’s media industry, concentrating efforts under larger national broadcasters. This restructuring aims to enhance operational efficiency and modernize broadcasting in Vietnam.
With VTV taking over, the focus is now on leveraging new technologies and approaches to cater to the changing preferences of viewers.
