The Ogun State Police have taken into custody a 44-year-old security guard named Damilola Otegba from the Federal University of Agriculture in Abeokuta, following accusations of sexually assaulting a young girl aged six.
According to police spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, the suspect allegedly enticed the girl to his security post where he committed the assault.
“The incident was reported on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, around 10:10 p.m. by Sherifat Bakare, a food seller living on Araromi Ajebo Road, near the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta. She received a call from her brother Seyi, who she had left in charge of her store on campus.”
“Seyi mentioned that while looking for the missing girl, she returned to the shop, looking scared. Upon questioning her, she recounted that Damilola Otegba, the security guard at the campus, had taken her to his work area on the upper floor.”
“The girl claimed he had exposed himself and forced her into inappropriate acts, then laid down behind her. She mentioned that when she resisted, a female student from FUNAAB unknowingly entered the room and confronted him about his behavior with the child.
“This prompted the chief security officer of FUNAAB to be alerted.”
The police spokesperson noted that the girl was taken to a university clinic for medical checks, and the officer in charge is currently waiting for the doctor’s report.
Moreover, it was stated that the suspect remains in police custody and will be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further inquiries.
