Whether you’re waiting for the Beauty and the Beast prequel series, coming to Disney+ or just looking for a movie night in, Disney’s streaming platform has you covered. Here’s how you can watch the original animated version of Beauty and the Beast, in addition to the live-action adaptation, released during 2017.
There is a ‘Beauty and the Beast’ prequel coming to Disney’s streaming platform
There are a few iconic Disney duos in their animated and live-action movies — Timon and Pumbaa, Mike and Sully, Lilo and Stitch, and, of course, Gaston and LeFou. Now, these two french heartthrobs are getting their own spinoff on Disney’s streaming platform.
This original television series is a prequel, taking place before the two stormed the enchanted castle. The two main characters, Gaston and LeFou, will be portrayed by Luke Evans and Josh Gad respectively, the same actors from Disney’s live-action film.
The Hollywood Reporter states, “The untitled limited series will be a six-episode musical event, with composer Alan Menken in talks to return as well.” Some creators of ABC’s Once Upon a Time will pen episodes of this prequel series.
There’s no official release date for this prequel series. Nevertheless, fans are excited to see these characters in a new light, and presumably learn more about LeFou’s sexuality, which was briefly hinted at during the 2017 release. (LeFou became one of Disney’s first LGBTQ characters.)
More information regarding this original television show will presumably be announced in the coming weeks. Until then, some fans are watching other movies starring Belle, the beast, and the enchanted objects.
Is the live-action version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ on Disney+?
As one of Disney’s most successful live-action remakes, the studio created a second version of Beauty of the Beast in 2017, with Emma Watson portraying the title character. It was this adaptation that featured Luke Evans and Josh Gad, sparking the idea for the prequel series.
This adaptation of Beauty and the Beast is available on Disney’s streaming platform. Live-action adaptations of classic movies, including The Lion King, Cinderella, and Aladdin, are available on Disney+.
Additionally, Disney has plans to make a spinoff series based on the live-action adaptation of Aladdin and its character, Prince Anders. However, not much information has been released regarding that series.
