Sources indicate that Cher’s son, Elijah Blue Allman, 48, was taken to the hospital in Joshua Tree, California, early Saturday. Cher, 79, is prioritizing her son’s health and is “doing everything possible to ensure he receives necessary assistance.”
Elijah’s father was the late Southern rock musician Gregg Allman, to whom Cher was married from 1975 to 1979. Gregg passed away from complications related to liver cancer in May 2017 at the age of 69.
What Led to the Hospitalization of Cher’s Son?
Reports reveal that Elijah was taken to the hospital due to an overdose. In a 2014 interview with Entertainment Tonight, he shared that he began using drugs when he was just 11 years old. “I was trying to escape my past, and that’s when I turned to substances like heroin and opiates,” he remarked.
[Heroin] helped me survive. Without it during that time, I don’t know what I would have done,” Elijah reflected. “One could easily consider drastic options. Getting through that tough period and finding help is essential.” He also recounted experiencing “terrifying incidents and times when he felt close to the edge of death.”
Concerns about Cher’s Daughter-in-Law’s Influence
As reported by the New York Post, in December 2023, Cher sought guardianship of her son, stating that she struggled to “properly manage her financial affairs” due to “severe mental health and substance use challenges.”
“Any funds given to Elijah are likely to be spent on drugs, leaving him without the means to support himself and jeopardizing his life,” the legal filings asserted. Cher also expressed concerns that Marieangela King, Elijah’s estranged wife, negatively influenced him and resisted her attempts to help him.
