Elton John, at the age of 77, is facing significant challenges with his eyesight. He emotionally shares his recent struggles with declining vision but expresses a strong determination to overcome this hurdle.
The music legend openly discussed how his eyesight issues have altered his perspective on individuals with visual impairments, revealing he is experiencing difficulty in seeing out of one eye due to an infection.
Despite these challenges, John remains optimistic about his recovery, recalling moments in his life when he successfully conquered severe obstacles such as addiction and health crises.
“Right now, my eyesight is not great,” John told The Guardian. “I’ve had some tough days, but I remind myself of my good fortune.”
“This experience has given me a new perspective on those who are visually impaired or completely blind, with many of whom I stay in touch. Regardless of my struggles, I’ve led a full life, and I remain hopeful for better vision.”
“I’ve overcome so much already. This won’t defeat me. I’ve conquered addiction and various health problems, so I’m ready to bounce back,” he stated.
John shares thoughts on his music
John also reflected on his evolving connection with his own music. Despite being celebrated as one of the greatest voices in Britain, having sold over 300 million records and received five Grammy awards, he revealed a surprising habit.
Much to the astonishment of fans, during an interview with BBC Radio 2’s The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, he confessed that he does not frequently listen to his own recordings, despite his influential career.
“I never play my older music,” John admitted. “I had to hear it before, but when I did, I was pleasantly surprised by how good it sounded.”
“Over the years, we created 13 albums along with numerous singles and B-sides, and we toured extensively. The energy during that time was incredible. I generally avoid watching or listening to things about myself because I’m not keen on seeing myself,” he added.
