At the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards, comedian Matt Rife showcased a fresh hairstyle reminiscent of Morgan Wallen, who garnered four awards that night. Rife’s new mullet, which seems to mimic Wallen’s signature look, might stem from his recent breakup with Jessica Lord, suggesting he’s ready for a change. Interestingly, Rife has had longer hair for a while, leading up to this notable debut.

Rife shared a photo on Instagram in August 2024 featuring 50 Cent, where his hair’s length was already noticeable. Although it was still a conventional style at that time, another later post revealed the early stages of his mullet. Perhaps this new look just took some time for fans to fully accept since it’s a bold choice.
By the time Rife appeared on the red carpet, his new hairstyle was clearly defined. Given Rife’s own controversies, he might also be aligning with Wallen’s somewhat notorious reputation.
Morgan Wallen has inspired a ton of mullet-sporting copycats
Regardless of Rife’s motives for adopting the mullet, he’s not alone in being influenced by Morgan Wallen’s style. Wallen himself shared that his infamous mullet became a fashion statement, originally inspired by his father’s hairstyle. He has noted that many fans now sport similar looks at his concerts, embracing the trend wholeheartedly.
However, Wallen’s team was initially skeptical about the look when he first unveiled it. Yet, Rife seems to be among the fans who fully support the mullet trend. Wallen humorously recalled that it took him several months to grow the hairstyle to the point where it was recognizable. Perhaps, Rife’s early attempts at the hairstyle will evolve into something more defined over time. Until it does, many may prefer to look away.
