In a September 2017 interview, Kelly questioned Fonda about her cosmetic surgeries while promoting a film, which did not go well. Fonda remarked, “Are we really talking about that now?” Following the interaction, Fonda critiqued Kelly’s interviewing approach. Kelly later stated she had no regrets for posing the question, believing it was an opportunity for Fonda to encourage women about cosmetic choices.
