Family Shocked as Maid Uses Dirty Water and Leaves for Tea

Hanoi family horrified after maid uses unwashed leaves, dirty rag water for tea

Ms. H., residing in Ngoc Thuy Ward, was taken aback when her family experienced ongoing health issues around May 12. After examining their food and drink options at home without finding anything unusual, she decided to review the kitchen surveillance footage.

Currently receiving outpatient care for joint problems at Viet Duc Hospital, Ms. H shared that her family regularly consumed perilla leaf tea for health benefits.

Earlier, on March 15, Ms. H had employed a woman named O, born in 1967 from Nghe An province, through Home Sky Trading and Services Co., Ltd., situated in Kim Giang, Hoang Mai District, Hanoi. O marketed herself as having eight years of experience in luxury households and two years in multi-story residences. She presented herself as diligent, clean, and proficient in cooking and childcare.

She began her duties on April 16, earning a monthly wage of 9 million VND (approximately 360 USD). However, just over a month into her employment, the family observed some deeply concerning actions from the helper.

On May 11, at around 5:00 AM, the surveillance footage showed O preparing the perilla leaf tea without washing the fresh leaves sourced from the Red River bank, leaving dirt intact. Alarmingly, she also grabbed a rag to clean spilled water from the countertop and then squeezed the filthy liquid straight into the tea pot.

Ms. H’s footage reveals the unsanitary behavior of helper O.

This entire 54-second incident was captured by the kitchen’s security camera.

After discovering the unsettling footage, Ms. H promptly filed a report with the Ngoc Thuy Ward Police on May 12. During interrogation, the maid admitted to pouring the dirty water into the tea, claiming it was a mistake made in haste.

The police have officially documented the incident and are processing the case according to its severity.

“I understand my actions were wrong and could harm others’ health. I vow to never repeat such behavior,” said helper O.

This unsettling event serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of hiring domestic help, highlighting the necessity of selecting well-reviewed placement agencies and thoroughly checking the qualifications of candidates to ensure they are both skilled and trustworthy.
