Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife, Le Thi Bich Tran, have touched down at Galeao military airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the expanded BRICS Summit and engage in bilateral activities within the host nation.
At 5:45 a.m. local time (3:45 p.m. Vietnam time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, along with his spouse and the Vietnamese delegation, arrived in Rio de Janeiro to commence their involvement in the BRICS Summit and associated events.
They were greeted at the airport by Laudemar G. de Aguiar Neto, Brazil’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for trade facilitation, science, technology, innovation, and culture; Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi; alongside officials and staff from the Vietnamese Embassy.
The theme of this year’s BRICS Summit is “Enhancing Cooperation Among the Global South for Inclusive and Sustainable Global Governance.” Key topics on the agenda encompass global health partnerships, trade and investment, strategies for addressing climate change, governance pertaining to artificial intelligence, and frameworks for peace while reinforcing BRICS institutions.
These focal points align seamlessly with Vietnam’s objectives, such as fostering sustainable economic growth on the path to attaining high-income status by 2045, adapting to climate change in coastal regions, and pursuing digital advancement.
This is Vietnam’s inaugural participation in the BRICS Summit as an official partner country. BRICS serves as a platform for collaboration among emerging economies that are gaining significant global influence both economically and politically.
During the summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will participate in and address high-level sessions covering topics like multilateralism, economic and financial matters, artificial intelligence, environmental issues, climate change, and global health.

Additionally, he is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with leaders from other participating nations and organizations, reinforcing Vietnam’s role, aspirations, and contributions to this multilateral framework. These interactions aim to strengthen Vietnam’s ties with BRICS members and international organizations.
The Prime Minister will also engage in bilateral initiatives in Brazil focused on enhancing multi-sectoral collaboration, especially in economic areas.
On June 14, Brazil, which will hold the BRICS chair for 2025, formally recognized Vietnam as a partner country within BRICS.
Vietnam, boasting a vibrant economy with nearly 100 million citizens and a pivotal geopolitical role in Asia, has achieved a significant diplomatic milestone through this partnership. It highlights the country’s rising global prominence and commitment to advocating for the voices of developing nations.
By joining as a BRICS partner, Vietnam seeks to play an active role in elevating the representation of developing countries, strengthening international unity, and promoting a rules-based global order. This reflects Vietnam’s commitment to global governance and its involvement in fostering a more inclusive and multilateral world system.
