Official Visit of Thai Prime Minister to Vietnam
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has shared that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has invited Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister of Thailand, to visit Vietnam officially on May 15-16. This visit will include a high-level delegation from Thailand.
During this trip, the two Prime Ministers will preside over the fourth Vietnam-Thailand Joint Cabinet meeting. This will mark Shinawatra’s inaugural official visit to Vietnam since he assumed his role.
Vietnam and Thailand maintain strong diplomatic relations, both being part of ASEAN and various regional platforms. They are gearing up to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic connections in 2026.
The strategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand is strengthening, fostering mutual confidence and yielding significant advantages for both nations. Their collaboration also plays a vital role in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable growth within the broader region.
Thailand is a crucial ally for Vietnam and ranks among the top trading and investing partners in ASEAN.
Trade targets are ambitious, with both nations aiming for a bilateral trade volume of $25 billion. This goal is supported by efforts to enhance trade facilitation, improve market access, and reduce trade restrictions. Additionally, they seek to collaborate in emerging sectors like the digital economy, e-commerce, and green energy.
Several prominent Thai investors have established a significant foothold in various Vietnamese regions. Concurrently, exchanges in culture, tourism, and education are thriving, aiding in building a stronger bond between the two countries.
Cooperation in defense and security is also a crucial aspect of their bilateral ties. In tourism, both nations see potential and are investigating ASEAN regional connectivity projects to attract more international tourists, including Thailand’s “Six countries – one destination” initiative.
