The women’s volleyball team from Vietnam has achieved a remarkable feat by winning the AVC Nations Cup 2025, securing their third consecutive title in Asia and achieving their first entry into the top 25 of the global rankings. This triumph has also qualified them for the 2025 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship.
In the championship game, Vietnam triumphed over the Philippines with a decisive 3-0 score, demonstrating their strength under the leadership of head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet. Notable individual performances included Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, who was named Best Outside Hitter, Bich Tuyen receiving both Best Opposite and MVP honors, and Khanh Dang being acknowledged as Best Libero.
Bich Tuyen, adorned in jersey number 10, was the tournament’s top scorer with 91 points—comprising 81 from attacks, 7 from blocks, and 3 aces. Her exceptional performance in both the semifinals and the finals affirmed her as the team’s most valuable asset.
After the spirited final match, the team was awarded a total bonus of VND 350 million (approximately USD 13,725), including VND 200 million (USD 7,850) from the Vietnam Volleyball Federation.
Reaching 25th place in the FIVB world rankings represents the highest achievement for Vietnam’s women’s volleyball team. However, head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet remains dedicated to ongoing development.
He commended the team’s increasing synergy, especially in blocking and attacking, but pointed out that aspects like service, back-row defense, and first-ball reception still require enhancement.
Coach Kiet noted that the AVC Nations Cup is merely the starting point. The team’s aspirations for 2025 include participation in the World Cup—a significant challenge—and pursuit of a groundbreaking gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games, although they will face tough competition from the formidable Thai women’s team, which has won 14 consecutive SEA Games titles.
After the AVC Nations Cup, the team returned to Quang Ninh for a 10-day training camp prior to competing in the VTV Cup 2025, scheduled from June 28 to July 5 in Vinh Phuc.
