Vietnamese Women Triumph in Group B, Advance to Asian Futsal Quarterfinals

Vietnam women top Group B, reach Asian futsal quarterfinals

Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team Reaches Quarterfinals

The women’s futsal team from Vietnam has moved into the quarterfinals of the AFC Women’s Futsal Championship 2025, achieving this by finishing first in Group B after a goalless draw against Iran, the defending champions.

In the match held on May 11, both teams played cautiously, with Vietnam ranked 11th and Iran 9th in the world. Coaches Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Foruzan Solymani chose to experiment with their lineups, allowing younger players like Hai Yen, Van Anh, Lan Mai, Nguyet Vi, and K’Thua to gain experience.

The first half lacked excitement, with both sides showing little urgency and creating few chances. The second half saw a slight increase in intensity as Vietnam pushed forward, generating several opportunities but failing to convert them into goals. Iran, on the other hand, focused primarily on their defense.

This draw secured Vietnam the top position in Group B with 7 points, setting them up to face the second-placed team from Group C in the quarterfinals. The opponent will be identified after the upcoming match between Japan and Thailand later today.

Many analysts believe this goalless outcome was a strategic decision to avoid stronger opponents in the next round. Iran, despite being the reigning champions, seemed satisfied with a second-place finish in the group.

Vietnam has displayed consistent performance throughout the group stage, showcasing tactical discipline and increasing confidence. The forthcoming quarterfinal match will serve as a significant challenge, likely against formidable teams like Japan, Thailand, or Indonesia.
