Comrade Obawolu Adedoja Aanu, a respected human rights advocate, has sadly passed away.
She collapsed and died in Lagos.
According to those familiar with her situation, Aanu fell at the front of her home on Saturday evening after coming back from her place of work. Despite immediate medical efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
Aanu was well-known for her fervent commitment to social justice and human rights causes.
She actively participated in various civil society organizations, such as the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) and the People’s Conscience, among others.
An anonymous fellow activist expressed disbelief over her untimely passing, describing her as a “dynamic, dedicated comrade who was profoundly devoted to supporting the marginalized.”
“She was on her way back from her store when this tragedy occurred. The community will deeply miss her energy and dedication to civil activism,” the individual shared.
At the time of her death, Aanu was an active and outspoken participant in protests, policy discussions, and grassroots campaigns aimed at enhancing governance transparency and accountability.
Her sudden loss has created a significant gap in Nigeria’s human rights community, with heartfelt condolences flooding in from peers and advocacy organizations nationwide.
