A young female soldier has been taken into custody by Hajiya Salamatu Faruk Yahaya, the spouse of Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya (retd.).
The detention was prompted by allegations that the soldier stole $50,000 from the ex-general’s home in Abuja.
The detained individual, identified as 25-year-old Amina Sani Maidoki, previously served as an aide-de-camp (ADC) for Hajiya Salamatu.
Reports from Sahara Reporters indicate that Amina was arrested on April 3, 2025, following her employer’s accusation of a substantial sum of money missing.
Although she has denied any wrongdoing regarding the theft, Amina was reportedly held without a trial, first at Salamatu’s personal residence and subsequently at a military detention center.
A family member mentioned that Salamatu initially decreed the soldier’s confinement at her home but later moved her to a military guardroom when the family contemplated legal recourse.
In a bid to secure Amina’s freedom, her family has begun selling their belongings and is pressing for the proper legal procedures to be observed.
