A group of suspected herdsmen has launched a fatal assault on the Wannune community in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, the birthplace of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

Reports from Daily Post indicate that this violent episode resulted in numerous fatalities and many injuries.

This incident occurred merely two days after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Benue to discuss the escalating security concerns.

A National Youth Service Corps member in the vicinity described the alarming atmosphere, saying it was chaotic and frightening.

“People are fleeing into the bushes for safety. We really need the prayers of Nigerians. The herdsmen are wreaking havoc here,”
the corps member expressed in an urgent plea, urging security forces to take immediate action.

The resurgence of violence has raised significant questions regarding the impact of President Tinubu’s visit and the commands he issued to law enforcement.

During his trip, the President engaged with local leaders and instructed the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff to capture those responsible for the violence.

This visit came on the heels of a horrific massacre in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, where more than 200 individuals lost their lives, an event that triggered widespread national outrage and censure.
