The African Democratic Congress (ADC) website faced a major shutdown due to a high volume of traffic from Nigerians wanting to join the newly established opposition coalition party.

A user highlighted on Friday that the website issues were caused by a massive wave of Nigerians keen to join what is being termed a “rescue coalition.”

IntelRegion confirmed that the website failure resulted from overwhelming visitor numbers as individuals sought to register for the up-and-coming political movement.

This outage indicates that the website’s capacity was insufficient to manage the sudden influx of visitors, likely because of limited server resources.

At the time this report was created, there was no official communication from the party concerning the website issues.

This incident occurred just two days after the ADC was announced as the leading platform for Nigeria’s new opposition alliance aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

A Facebook user named Unclè Anass Dukura reported having trouble accessing the site and receiving continuous error notifications.

“The public interest far surpassed the platform’s initial capacity,”
the user stated.

The coalition was officially launched on Wednesday in Abuja, presenting a consolidated effort for Nigeria’s opposition.

The launch event was also graced by well-known political figures such as former APC National Chairman John Oyegun, ex-Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, Dino Melaye, former Youth and Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, media figure Dele Momodu, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe from the Labour Party, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha, and retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

The party, initiated in 2005 as the Alliance for Democratic Change, rebranded as the African Democratic Congress after gaining formal registration from Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
