Activist Critiques Tinubu’s Government
Omoyele Sowore, a prominent activist and politician, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, labeling it as sadistic.
Concerns Over Protester Arraignment
His remarks came in response to the government’s intention to prosecute 75 protesters from the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement, with many of them being minors.
These individuals are scheduled to face Justice Egwuatu at the Abuja Federal High Court on November 1, 2024.
Detention of the Protesters
Sowore pointed out that many protesters have already spent 80 days behind bars before their trial begins.
In a post on X, he expressed his concerns: “The sadistic regime of @officialABAT is set to prosecute 75 individuals affiliated with the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement on treason charges before Justice Egwuatu on November 1st, 2024. Several of these individuals -several of them minors- have spent 80 days in unjust incarceration before the sham trial is to commence. #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria #RevolutionNow.”
Background of the Protests
The demonstrations took place from August 1 to August 10, as Nigerians voiced their discontent with widespread hardship in the country using the hashtag EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.
Unfortunately, the protests were marred by violence when some individuals took advantage of the situation, causing disorder and damaging property.
Government Response
In the wake of these events, law enforcement apprehended a number of the protesters as part of their response.
