Incident Overview
Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped at least 10 travellers on the Owo-Benin highway in Ondo State’s Ose Local Government Area.
Details of the Abduction
The victims were travelling from Akwa Ibom to Akure during the incident. A source, wishing to remain anonymous, shared that the bus driver mistook the assailants for security forces until they began firing into the air.
”The kidnappers struck on the Owo-Ipele road early Saturday at around midnight, stopping their vehicle and forcibly taking the passengers into the bush.”
“They ambushed the group and abducted everyone inside the bus. Since then, there has been no update on their whereabouts.”
The police spokesperson in Ondo, Funmilayo Odunlami, provided a different report, stating that only seven individuals were taken.
“Authorities were alerted to an attack on a vehicle along the Owo/Ifon road, where seven individuals are believed to have been kidnapped.”
“These seven were travelling from Akwa Ibom in a commercial vehicle. Our team is actively working to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.”
