The Euro 2024 final will see England face Spain in Berlin on July 14. Gareth Southgate’s team has battled through to secure their spot in the final against the skilled Spanish squad.
Expectations among England fans have soared as the country prepares for the final showdown, with hopes of a nationwide Bank Holiday on July 15 if celebrations run into Sunday night.
Potential Bank Holiday if England Emerges Victorious
England supporters are wondering if there will be a holiday in the event of an England win in Euro 2024.
However, the newly appointed UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has not committed to the idea of an additional day off. Despite advocating for a Bank Holiday following England’s Women’s World Cup victory in 2023 while in opposition, his stance is now less definitive.
Starmer, who has been in office for a week, expressed caution at the United Nations summit in Washington D.C., emphasizing the importance of securing the victory first. He also supported a Bank Holiday after England Women’s Euro 2022 win.
The Conservatives previously dismissed the notion due to the significant cost estimated at £2.9bn based on a House of Commons report from 2010. Starmer’s response suggests that any sudden changes to the UK calendar are unlikely, with existing Bank Holidays applying across the UK.
Despite this, the government has permitted pubs in England and Scotland to extend their opening hours until 1 a.m. BST.
