Chile vs. Brazil: Team News and Predicted Lineups Amidstar Absences

On Thursday, Brazil will face Chile in Santiago as both teams strive for a much-needed boost in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.

After securing a win against Ecuador in September which pushed Brazil to fifth place, they suffered a setback with a loss to Paraguay, dampening their spirits.

The Brazilian squad has also been affected by injuries, with key players like Alisson and Vinicius Jr. missing from the lineup.

Chile is in a tough spot as well, residing near the bottom of the qualifying table after a humiliating defeat at home against Bolivia. While Bolivia has a reputation for strong performances at altitude, losing to them on home turf adds to the team’s woes.

Below, find the latest updates on team news and the predicted lineups.

Predicted Lineups: Chile vs. Brazil

Chile’s coach, Ricardo Gareca, has made several notable roster changes for this match, including excluding goalkeeper Gabriel Arias, who didn’t impress while stepping in for the retired Claudio Bravo. Instead, Brayan Cortes, the sole goalkeeper with international experience, is expected to start.

Unfortunately, full-back Gabriel Suazo is sidelined with a hamstring injury, along with Marcelino Nunez.

Notably absent are seasoned players Alexis Sanchez, Gary Medel, Charles Aranguiz, and Mauricio Isla, with some being out for an extended period. Isla was not included in this month’s squad following the dismal outing against Bolivia. Matias Catalan is also missing, leaving a significant gap in defense along with striker Ben Brereton Diaz.

Chile’s Predicted XI (4-3-3, left to right): Cortes (GK) — Loyola, Maripan, P. Diaz, Galdames — Pulgar, Pavez, Echeverria — Valdes — Davila, Vargas.

Complete Squad:

Goalkeepers: Brayan Cortes, Lawrence Vigouroux, Vicente Reyes

Defenders: Guillermo Maripan, Paulo Diaz, Bejamin Kuscevic, Matias Zaldivia, Fabian Hormazabal, Felipe Loyola, Marcelo Morales, Thomas Galdames

Midfielders: Rodrigo Echeverria, Erick Pulgar, Ulises Ortegoza, Williams Alarcon, Esteban Pavez, Diego Valdes, Carlos Palacios

Forwards: Dario Osorio, Victor Davila, Luciano Cabral, Eduardo Vargas, Maximiliano Guerrero, Gonzalo Tapia, Lucas Cepeda

Brazil’s lineup will notably be missing Alisson due to an injury he suffered shortly before the international window.

Additionally, Eder Militao and Vinicius from Real Madrid will also be absent, along with Juventus defender Bremer, who is out with a serious knee injury.

Furthermore, on the domestic front, injured players Yan Couto, Pedro, and Guilherme Arana are unable to join the squad, compounding Brazi’s challenges. The absence of Neymar due to an ACL tear continues as he is expected back in a month.

Brazil’s Predicted XI (4-3-3, left to right): Ederson (GK) — Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Telles — Paqueta, Pereira, Guimaraes — Raphinha, Rodrygo, Martinelli.

Complete Squad:

Goalkeepers: Weverton, Bento, Ederson

Defenders: Danilo, Vanderson, Alex Telles, Abner, Beraldo, Fabricio Bruno, Gabriel, Marquinhos

Midfielders: Andre, Bruno Guimaraes, Andreas Pereira, Gerson, Lucas Paqueta, Rodrygo

Forwards: Endrick, Raphinha, Luiz Henrique, Igor Jesus, Savinho, Gabriel Martinelli
