On May 18, Inter Miami faced a 3-0 loss against Orlando City in Major League Soccer at Chase Stadium.
The team, which began the season without a loss, has struggled, securing only one victory in their last five league games. Additionally, they were eliminated in the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Currently, Inter Miami ranks sixth in the MLS standings, accumulating 22 points in 13 matches. Amid these challenges, fan concerns regarding Lionel Messi’s future with the club are growing.
Messi’s contract with Inter Miami is set to expire at the end of this year. Recent reports suggested he might sign an extension that would keep him with the team until the close of the 2026 season, backed by co-owner Jorge Mas.
“Everything seems to be falling into place for a promising future for both the club and Lionel. It’s entirely his choice. I hope within the next 60-90 days we will have clarity. My ultimate hope is to see Messi play at our new stadium in 2026, and I really hope that comes to fruition,” stated Mas.
Nevertheless, Messi’s recent remarks have raised uncertainty surrounding his time at Inter Miami.

Messi’s Comments
After the loss to Orlando City, an MLS reporter inquired about Messi’s plans at the club. The 37-year-old gave a short response, sporting a slight smile before heading to the locker room.
“I have no information,” remarked the celebrated eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Although Messi’s reply didn’t provide much reassurance to fans, Inter Miami’s head coach Javier Mascherano expressed optimism during the post-match conference, mentioning they expect to provide ‘updates in the near future’ regarding the star player.
“Bringing Jordi [Alba] on board for the next couple of years signifies stability, and we hope to have news about Leo soon, as it would be vital for the club, its supporters, and for MLS,” said the Argentine coach.
With just over seven months remaining on his contract, it remains uncertain whether Messi will choose to stay with Inter Miami or move on from the MLS team.
